We totally understand that. That’s why we’re kicking off a new monthly series here on Guiding Tech, where we’ll showcase the best new apps for iPhones and iPads. So without much further ado, let’s take a look at some of the best free iOS apps for August 2019 that you must try.

1. 321Fit

There are plenty of useful workout apps available on the App Store, but I’m sure you won’t find anything as unique as 321Fit. The app’s design will remind you of a retro music player with pixelated graphics or a classic Terminal with green fonts and black background. Instead of playing music, it plays the workouts you can follow. And it’s quite easy to use. Pick a workout, press play, and the app will guide you through all the exercises you need to cover in a session. It will also prompt to let you know when you should switch between exercises. That results in an efficient workout session where you don’t waste any time figuring out what you need to do next. With the app, you get the option to either plan your workout or use one of the available presets. You can customize the time you need to complete a set and adjust the number of sets, repetitions, and weights for every exercise. After that, you don’t even need to look at your phone. The app has some handy audio cues to notify you when a set is about to end. Isn’t that cool? Download 321Fit

2. Lockdown Apps

If you’re serious about privacy, then you’re going to love Lockdown Apps — an open-source firewall for iOS. In simple words, the app allows you to block connections to any domain and protect your privacy, no matter which app you’re using. Once you set it up for the first time, all you need to do is tap on the Configure block list button to add the domains you want to block. Just hit the large power button on the app’s home screen to activate lockdown. Then it will start blocking all apps from unnecessarily sending your usage data by connecting to the domains you’ve specified. The best part about the app is that it has no impact on your internet speed. I only wish it allowed users to configure separate firewalls for mobile data and WiFi because that would make it completely perfect. Download Lockdown Apps

3. DesignLab

For those of you looking for a great Canva alternative for your iPhone, we suggest — DesignLab. It’s a feature-rich photo and video editor that you can use to create professional graphics or marketing materials for your Instagram or Facebook page. If you’ve used Canva, then you’ll feel right at home with DesignLabs. The app offers all of the same features; including customizable templates, royalty-free artwork, a bunch of handy tools and even an elaborate text editor. What I like about DesignLab is that it supports layer-based editing like GIMP or Photoshop, which simplifies the process of making complex graphics with multiple elements. And it even has a neat history section which lists down all the edits you’ve made, so that you can easily go back and revert changes that you don’t like. Download DesignLab

4. SquareDude

While we’re on the topic of image editors, SquareDude is another one you should check out. As the name suggests, the app helps you create stunning square posts for Instagram that will surely give your profile the facelift it deserves. It has a user-friendly interface, and you can use it to convert any photo into a cool post with a different aspect ratio. You can also give them a complementary border or gradient in the background, add a blur, crop it to any size, and a lot more. And if you opt for the pro version, you can unlock some advanced features like smart color picking and batch resizing, which will help you create several posts at once. Download SquareDude

5. Knowt

If you’re a student looking for a handy app to help you with your test prep, then you should check out Knowt. It’s a unique note-taking app that makes use of artificial intelligence to generate quizzes based on your notes automatically. And you can do it all with a single tap. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical when I first came across the app, but it works surprisingly well. You just need to add your notes to the app, hit the Quiz button, and in a moment, the app generates a random quiz with a couple of different types of questions based on the data. The app isn’t perfect by any means, and it does falter from time to time. But the questions it generates are pretty good. Check it out, and I’m sure you’ll be amazed. Download Knowt

6. Declutter the Mind

Next up, there’s Declutter the Mind — a useful guided meditation app. Have you been meaning to start meditating but didn’t know where to begin? If so, then this app is for you. The app offers a bunch of different types of guided meditation courses of varying lengths to help you with several troubles ranging from stress at work to sleep deprivation. All you need is a decent mat to get started. Just find a quiet and comfy corner in your house, plug in your earphone, and tap on play. It’s that simple. I tried a couple of courses and felt quite relaxed after each one of them. Most of the courses available are free. However, the 3-day mindfulness course for beginners requires a subscription. But on the upside, the first five days are free, so you can try it out before going ahead with the subscription. Download Declutter the Mind

7. UpNext Party

Rounding things off is an app called UpNext Party, which solves one major issue that every party goer has faced at one point or another — bad music. The app allows everyone at the party to queue up whatever song they want to play. That way, everyone gets to listen to their favorite party track. And if there’s some stiff competition between two tracks, users can also cast a vote to choose the most requested one out of the two. Pretty cool, right? You can even use the app to find all the parties happening nearby, so you can easily move on to the next one if the one you’re at isn’t looking too hot. Download UpNext Party
